Foot Print Painting
Last February my nanny kids and I planned a full week of activities to make the most of school vacation, this craft was one of the most unique and funny things we did. Take a look!
Foot Print Painting: Not painting pictures of footprints, painting WITH their feet. There was a lot of trial and error and technique tries. They tried holding paintbrushes with their toes, sitting and standing while painting, and eventually just stepping into the paint tray to use their feet like stamps. Here is how we did it, step by step! (See what I did there?)
Supplies
Rolled paper
Crayola washable paints
Paper plates
Paint brushes
Chairs
Water resistant floor cover (we used a plastic tablecloth)
Lots of wet paper towels or the like (to wash those colorful feet)
Masking tape
Setup
Lay the floor covering flat on the floor, roll out the paper to your desired size, and secure to the floor covering with tape. Bring over chairs or stools, whatever the child can hold onto to maintain balance ( they get so focused on using their feet to paint, they sometimes forget they need to balance too ). Squeeze out some paint onto paper plates, we did 3 colors per plate and they have plenty of space to dip their feet into each separately.
Then Paint! Try holding paintbrushes with toes, toe painting, whole foot painting, or any technique you like, just try it with feet, that is what makes this so unique and fun!
Finished your masterpiece? That is where the wet towels come in handy, don’t want to track paint through the house to get to the tub!
SIDE NOTE: This craft could lead to so many learning opportunities like… Toe prints are like fingerprints, your foot size is related to your height, some people use their feet like hands, and so many more talking points!
Have fun!
Respectfully yours,
Heather Poppins
