Crochet Pineapple Drink Coozies!

Everyone loves a cold drink in summer, and everyone hates that drink once it has been boiled by the sun. So we all typically reach for a generic coozie from the store or one that has been plastered with a company logo we don’t even remember visiting. Here is my solution for this seasonal dilemma, a handmade pineapple-inspired coozie! Below are my free crochet patterns of a Medium Dunk’s Iced Drink Coozie (referred to as ICED) and a 12 oz Drink Can Cookie (referred to as CAN).

Here are the yarns I chose for my projects…

The yellow fruit portion of the pineapple was made with Bernat Maker Home Dec (Bulky – 5) in Gold (less than 1/4 skein used). It is an excellent option for the condensation that comes with chilled drinks, it soaks it up, and with the thickness of the stitch, the moisture doesn’t touch your hand!

The leafy green portion was made with Loops & Threads Joy DK (Light – 3) in Leaf (less than 1/4 skein used).

Hook size H / 5mm. Yes, just one hook for the whole project! I love it when it’s simple!

Both the ICED and CAN patterns start the same, and at Row 6, instructions begin to change for sizing.

Row 1) CH 5, SL ST in 1st CH to close.

Row 2) CH 2, 16 DC into the loop, SL ST to top of original CH 2 to close.

Row 3) CH 2, 1 DC in the same stitch as the ch2, *1 DC in the next stitch, then 2 DC in the following stitch* *repeat until end. Ending with 24 DC and 1 CH2, SL ST to top of CH 2 to close.

Row 4) CH 2, Puff Stitch in first DC, *SK next DC, Puff Stitch in the next DC*. *repeat until reaching the CH2, squeeze in one more Puff Stitch in the back base of the starting CH 2. Ending with 13 Puff Stitches and 1 CH 2, SL ST to top of CH 2 to close.

Row 5) CH 2, Puff Stitch in the first hole between the below CH2 and first Puff, *SK to top of the below Puff, Puff Stitch in the gap between Puffs*. *repeat until reaching the CH2. Ending with 13 Puff Stitches and 1 CH 2, SL ST to top of CH 2 to close.

Row 6) CAN – Repeat Row 5 for rows 6 – 10. ICED – Repeat Row 5 for rows 6 – 12. For your last of this repeat, cut and tie off. The next row will be for the leaves.

CAN Row 11 & ICED Row 13) Start your row with your leaf yarn, CH 3, 1DC into the same ST, *SK to the next hole between puffs and create 2 DC*, *repeat to end of the round, be sure to add 2DC between the last Puff the CH2 of the previous row. Finishing with 27 DC and 1 CH3. You have made 14 “V” shaped stitches into the Puff spaces.

CAN Row 12 & ICED Row 14) CH 1, *5 DC down the right post of your “V,” CH1, (rotate your work for easier holding and stitching) 5 DC up the left post of your “V,” SL ST into the center of the next “V” *, repeat to end of row. Ending with 7 Leaves, SL ST to the center of the last “V,” but pick up the first DC of your first Leaf to hold it in.

CAN Row 13 & ICED Row 15) Repeat the row to make your “V”‘s.

CAN Row 14 & ICED Row 16) Repeat the row to make your leaves.

CAN Row 15 & ICED Row 17) CH1, *2 SC into the below leaf “V,” 2 SC into the center of the hidden “V”*, *repeat until end of row. SL ST into the starting CH1, tie off, and weave in ends.

Enjoy your new handmade pineapple coozie!

Respectfully yours,

Heather
